Bio
Indu Bala is an Assistant Professor of Microbiology at Guru Nanak Paramedical College in Dhahan Kaleran. In addition to biology, she teaches subjects ranging from human anatomy and physiology to operation theatre management and more.
Prior to joining the college, she was an Assistant Professor for Sukhjinder Group of Institutes, where she taught medical microbiology between March, 2024 to July, 2024.
She also worked as a teaching assistant at Mind Operation Academy in Chauntra, Himachal Pradesh between 2020 to 2021.
In 2019, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences at Himachal Pradesh University in Shimla in 2019. She received her Master of Science in Medical Microbiology at Sant Baba Bhag Singh University in Jalandhar, Punjab in 2023.
Between January 2023 to July 2023, she completed a six month internship focused on environment microbiology at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh.
During her internship, she received hands-on experience in culturing microbes for experimentation, plus using laboratory instruments such as a spectrophotometer, centrifugation machine and laminar flow hood. She explored the ways technology can be used to develop rural regions without compromising soil health, such as by using organic waste as biofertilizer, in place of chemical fertilizers.
In October, 2023 she presented on sexually transmitted infections and their impact on reproductive health at the 2nd National Conference at IET Bhaddal Technical Campus in Mianpur, Bhaddal, Punjab.
She holds a special interest in the isolation and screening of microorganisms, as well as the identification of microorganisms.
She believes microbiology is critical for solving global challenges because it helps us understand how bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa play important roles in our environments. For example, they are essential for nutrient cycling and digestion.
