Bio
Vivek Sharma is an Assistant Professor of Medical Microbiology at Guru Nanak Paramedical College in Dhahan Kaleran, Punjab.
As an educator, he is passionate about breaking down complex microbiological concepts so that they become accessible to students for both practical and research-based applications.
He says: “I find it incredibly rewarding to help students develop critical thinking skills and a passion for research, especially in areas that can have real-world impact on health and disease management.”
As a published academic, he holds a special interest in bacteriology, infectious disease diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance and scientific mentoring. In particular, he is fascinated by the way microbiology can lead to answers about global human health, and the treatment and prevention of disease.
He studied for his Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology between 2019 to 2022 at Chandigarh University (CU). He went on to complete his Master of Science in Medical Microbiology at Desh Bhagat University in June, 2024. His six-month Master’s thesis was on viral pathogenesis, which he completed at Max Super Specialty Hospital in New Delhi.
In January, 2025, he began the pursuit of a Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Microbiology at Maharishi Markandeshwar (Deemed to be University) College of Health Sciences in Mullana (Ambala), Haryana. His PhD research focus is on helicobacter pylori and antimicrobial resistance.
As a Master’s research intern at Max Super Specialty Hospital in New Delhi, he conducted research on molecular diagnostics, picking up techniques in polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Using these techniques, he contributed to diagnostic workflows during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also gained experience maintaining lab notebooks, documenting findings and conducting data analysis under senior researchers.
As part of his Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology, Vivek Sharma completed a lab internship at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana, between January to June, 2021. During his internship, he rotated through departments in clinical pathology, microbiology, biochemistry, and hematology while gaining experience in laboratory workflows. He participated in sample collection and performed basic diagnostic procedures such as staining techniques, analysis and quality control.
